Ki Mobility Catalyst 5
The Catalyst 5 is a folding ultralight aluminum wheelchair. You choose every part, and we check it against Ki Mobility's rules.
A folding chair in 7000 series aluminum, built to your measurements
The Catalyst 5 is Ki Mobility's ultralight folding wheelchair. The frame is 7000 series aluminum with dual interlocking cross braces, and Ki Mobility gives a 12.8 lb. transport weight at 16" x 16". The universal axle plate sets the seat heights in 1/2" steps.
Choose the frame, seat size, rear wheels, casters and seat heights, footrest, back, wheel locks, armrests, accessories and color. Each choice is checked against the Catalyst 5 order form as you build.
What stands out
7000 series aluminum frame
Ki Mobility's patented folding frame uses 7000 series aluminum, with dual interlocking cross braces that stiffen the frame when it is open.
Universal axle plate
Sets the rear seat height in 1/2" steps and moves the center of gravity over a 3" range, so the chair can be retuned as the user's needs change.
Swing away hangers
Ki Mobility's own hangers carry a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, with a classic or 4-way release.
Heavy duty frame
The heavy duty frame raises the user weight capacity from 300 lbs. to 350 lbs. on the same chair.
Depth adjustable and reclining backs
The depth adjustable rear frame moves the back 2" forward or back, and the reclining frame reclines it from 0 to 65 degrees.
Twenty one frame colors
14 gloss and 7 matte colors at no charge, six hydrographic patterns, a color accent package for the forks and axle plates, and color anodizing.
The Hieline Insight
The Catalyst 5 suits a full time manual wheelchair user who needs a folding chair, up to 300 lbs., or 350 lbs. with the heavy duty frame. It also suits a user whose needs may change, because the depth adjustable back, the reclining frame and the universal axle plate let a therapist retune the chair later. Take your hip width, seat depth, lower leg length and back height before you start, since Ki Mobility fixes every size when it builds the chair. Choose your rear wheels and casters before the seat heights, because they set the heights the page offers. Ki Mobility builds the chair to order, so it cannot be returned once it is made.

Common questions
Measure seated on a firm surface. Hip width sets the seat width, the back of the hip to the back of the knee sets the seat depth, the back of the knee to the floor in shoes sets the seat to footrest length, and the seat to the shoulder blades sets the back height. The order form on the Resources tab shows each setting.
300 lbs. With the heavy duty frame it carries 350 lbs. The heavy duty frame needs 5" or larger casters and is not sold with the transit system, the reclining frame, the performance caster housing, Frog Legs forks or camber.
Ki Mobility gives a transport weight of 12.8 lbs. at 16" x 16", with 5" x 1" poly casters and swing away arm receivers, without the footrest and rear wheels. Its specification table gives a standard weight of 23 lbs., while one feature note on its site says 20.8 lbs. We show the specification table's figure.
The front seat height depends on the caster size, and the rear seat height on the rear wheel size and the tire profile. Ki Mobility also limits how much lower the rear can sit than the front for each seat depth. The page offers only the heights on Ki Mobility's charts for the parts you chose.
The titanium frame is the Catalyst 5 Ti, which we list as its own chair. It is not offered on this page.
Ki Mobility sells the Twist power assist from Klaxon as an add-on on its order form. We do not offer it on this page yet. The e-motion ready option, which installs the adaption kit for an Alber e-motion, is offered here.
No. The photographs show an Axiom cushion, which is sold separately. The chair comes with a seat sling, or a removable seat pan if you choose one.
Ki Mobility warrants the frame, cross braces, hangers and quick release axles against defects for the life of the original purchaser, with an expected frame life of five years. All other parts are covered for one year from the first purchase. Upholstery, tires, tubes, armrest pads, armrests and push handle grips are wear items and are not covered.

Yes. Your progress saves automatically in your browser as you go, so you can step away and pick up where you left off on the same device.
Every combination is checked against Ki Mobility's own compatibility rules as you build. An option that does not fit your other choices is greyed out with the reason printed on it, and the build cannot be added to the cart while a conflict is open.
