Ki Mobility Catalyst 5Vx
The Catalyst 5Vx is a folding ultralight aluminum wheelchair. You choose every part, and we check it against Ki Mobility's rules.
A folding chair in 7000 series aluminum, built to your measurements
The Catalyst 5Vx is Ki Mobility's redesigned folding wheelchair in 7000 series aluminum. Ki Mobility gives a 13.9 lb. transport weight at 16" x 16". Its axle plate moves the center of gravity over 2" in 1/2" steps, and camber spacers let the camber be changed later.
Choose the frame, seat size, rear wheels, casters and seat heights, footrest, back, wheel locks, armrests, accessories and color. Each choice is checked against the Catalyst 5Vx order form as you build.
What stands out
7000 series aluminum frame
A folding frame in 7000 series aluminum, redesigned by Ki Mobility with a cleaner look from the logo to the frame.
Adjustable axle plate
The axle plate gives 2" of center of gravity adjustment in 1/2" steps and 5" of rear seat height adjustment over 7 positions.
Adjustable camber
Camber from 0 to 4 degrees, and camber spacers at no charge so the camber can be changed later without new parts.
Swing-in anti-tips
Anti-tips that swing in under the frame when they are not needed, as a pair or on one side.
Transit wheels
Small wheels built into the rear frame let the rear wheels come off so the chair fits through narrow spaces.
Color accents
14 gloss and 7 matte frame colors, a color accent package for the forks and axle plates, color anodizing and six hydrographic patterns.
The Hieline Insight
The Catalyst 5Vx suits a full time manual wheelchair user who needs a folding chair, up to 300 lbs., or 350 lbs. with the heavy duty frame. It also suits a user who expects to fine tune the chair, because the axle plate and the camber spacers let the center of gravity and the camber change later. Take your hip width, seat depth, lower leg length and back height before you start, since Ki Mobility fixes every size when it builds the chair. Choose your rear wheels and casters before the seat heights, because they set the heights the page offers. Ki Mobility builds the chair to order, so it cannot be returned once it is made.

Common questions
Measure seated on a firm surface. Hip width sets the seat width, the back of the hip to the back of the knee sets the seat depth, the back of the knee to the floor in shoes sets the seat to footrest length, and the seat to the shoulder blades sets the back height. The measuring guide on this page shows each one.
300 lbs. With the heavy duty frame it carries 350 lbs. The heavy duty frame needs 5" or larger casters and is not sold with the transit system, the performance caster housing, Frog Legs forks, swing-in anti-tips, transit wheels or tipping levers.
Ki Mobility gives a transport weight of 13.9 lbs. at 16" x 16", with 5" x 1" poly casters and height adjustable T-arm receivers, without the footrest and rear wheels, and a standard weight of 24 lbs.
The Catalyst 5Vx has its own axle plate with 7 rear seat height positions, camber in 1 degree steps with spacers for later change, a half-folding back, transit wheels and tipping levers. The Catalyst 5 offers the depth adjustable and reclining backs, one arm drive and the amputee axle plate, which the 5Vx does not.
The front seat height depends on the caster size, and the rear seat height on the rear wheel size and the tire profile. Ki Mobility also limits how much lower the rear can sit than the front for each seat depth. The page offers only the heights on Ki Mobility's charts for the parts you chose. Ki Mobility's site lists rear seat heights to 21", and its order form charts go to 20", so the page follows the form.
The photographs show Ki Mobility's MAXX Mag wheels and a cushion. The current order form does not offer the MAXX Mag wheel, and the cushion is sold separately. The wheels on this page are the ones the order form offers.
Ki Mobility sells the Twist power assist from Klaxon as an add-on on its order form. We do not offer it on this page yet. The e-motion ready option, which installs the adaption kit for an Alber e-motion, is offered here.
Ki Mobility warrants the frame, cross braces, hangers and quick release axles against defects for the life of the original purchaser, with an expected frame life of five years. All other parts are covered for one year from the first purchase. Upholstery, tires, tubes, armrest pads, armrests and push handle grips are wear items and are not covered.

Every combination is checked against Ki Mobility's own compatibility rules as you build. An option that does not fit your other choices is greyed out with the reason printed on it, and the build cannot be added to the cart while a conflict is open.
