An open frame rigid chair that adjusts as you do
The Quickie 5R is Sunrise Medical's open frame rigid wheelchair, 21.5 lbs. in its standard build. Choose the Classic frame for stability, the shorter Performance frame for a quicker ride, or the XTR suspension frame for curbs and rough ground.
You choose the frame, angle and inset, sizes, casters and fork, seat heights, wheels, axle plate, footrest, back, arms and colors, and every choice is checked against Sunrise's rules and the charts printed on its order form as you build.
What stands out
Open frame design
The 5R's open rigid frame and swept back hydroformed caster housings give a smooth, stiff ride at 21.5 lbs.
Classic or Performance length
The Classic frame keeps the traditional length for stability. The Performance frame is 1.5" shorter from seat to front bend for a quicker, more responsive chair.
XTR suspension frame
A rear shock in a Performance frame takes the hit out of curbs and rough ground. Add Frog Legs forks, mountain wheels and knobby tires for trails.
Quick adjusting axle plate
The swept back axle plate comes short or long and adjusts quickly, with center of gravity from -1.5" to 4".
Seat heights from Sunrise's charts
Front and rear seat heights, footrests and handrims are checked against the charts on Sunrise's order form for your caster, fork, axle plate, wheel and tire.
Xtender ready
Add Quickie's Xtender power assist wheels in 22" or 24", with nickel or lithium batteries.
The Hieline Insight
The Quickie 5R suits an active user up to 265 lbs. who pushes all day and wants a light rigid chair that can be tuned as their skills change. The first choice is the frame. Take the Classic for the most stability, the Performance for a quicker chair that turns tighter, and the XTR suspension frame if the user rides over curbs, gravel or grass every day. Then pick the frame angle and caster, since Sunrise's footrest chart decides which footrests fit them, and choose the front seat height before the rear wheels and axle plate, because the rear seat height has to sit within Sunrise's drop from the front. Take the user's measurements with Sunrise's measuring guide on the Resources tab before you build.

Order form and measuring
Common questions
Measure the user seated on a firm surface. Hip width is the widest point across the hips. Seat depth is from the back of the hips to the back of the knee. Lower leg length is from the back of the knee to the bottom of the heel. Sunrise's measuring guide is on the Resources tab.
The Classic frame has the traditional distance from the seat to the front frame bend. The Performance frame is 1.5" shorter there, which makes the chair quicker to turn. The XTR is a Performance frame with a rear suspension shock; it is not made in 12" or 13" seats and is not offered with the Xtender or transit.
Sunrise's charts print the front seat heights each caster and fork reach, and the rear seat heights each axle plate and wheel reach. The front of the seat must also sit level with the rear or higher, within a limit set by the seat depth. The build only opens the heights the charts allow.
They do not work with a choice you have already made. The reason is printed on the option, and every rule comes from Sunrise's order form and its charts.
Yes, with the optional transit system, which meets WC-19. It is not offered on the XTR frame or with the Xtender.
No. The 5R is built to order to one user's measurements, so it cannot be returned. The Sunrise warranty covers defects.
No. You can order a Quickie 5R from Hieline without a prescription.
No. Hieline does not bill or accept insurance, so the Quickie 5R is a direct purchase. Any reimbursement is strictly between you and your insurer.
