The Zippie X'CAPE is Sunrise Medical's pediatric folding wheelchair, built to order from Sunrise's own order form.
You choose the frame, the sizes, both seat heights, the wheels, the footrest and two colors, and every choice is checked against Sunrise's rules as you build.
What stands out
Rigid ride, folding frame
The XLOCK crossbrace locks solid when the chair is open, so it pushes like a rigid chair. Push to lock and pull the strap to fold, one handed.
Grows with the child
The crossbrace grows 2" in width and the seat rail 3" in depth, so the chair keeps fitting as the child grows.
Z-finity footrest
The footplate adjusts from 0.5" above the seat to 21" below it, and the pivot arm sets its angle and reach to the child's leg.
Light to push
From 19 lbs., one of the lightest pediatric folding chairs, so more of the child's energy goes into play.
VersaRail seat rail
One seat rail takes a sling seat or made-to-order seating, and shares space for armrests, wheel locks and side guards.
Two colors, chosen apart
20 frame colors and 20 crossbrace and back shell colors give 400 combinations, plus three personalized finishes.
The Hieline Insight
The Zippie X'CAPE suits an active child who pushes themselves and whose family needs a chair that folds for the car. Its locking crossbrace is the reason to choose it over other folding chairs, because it takes away most of the flex that makes a folding frame harder to push. The built-in growth is worth planning for: order the width and depth that fit today, and the frame has room to grow 2" wider and 3" deeper. Most of the fit is in the numbers, so take the child's measurements with Sunrise's measuring guide on the Resources tab before you build. If the child will be pushed most of the time or needs tilt, compare a stroller or a tilt chair first.

Common questions
Measure the child seated on a firm surface. Hip width is the widest point across the hips. Seat depth is from the back of the hips to the back of the knee. Lower leg length is from the underside of the thigh at the knee to the bottom of the heel. Sunrise's measuring guide is on the Resources tab.
Each frame width grows 2" in the crossbrace, so a 12" chair can widen to 14". The seat rail grows up to 3" deeper. The Z-finity footrest adjusts over its whole range as the legs grow.
With seating, Sunrise supplies a sling seat and back upholstery. Without seating, the chair is set up for a JAY cushion and back, which Hieline sells on their own pages. Sunrise says to order the frame 1" deeper when a JAY cushion will go on it.
Sunrise's wheel lock chart marks some small swing-away builds with larger wheels as no-go for wheel locks at certain center of gravity settings. Those builds need hub locks, which fit the Lite Spoke, 12" and 16" wheels.
They do not work with a choice you have already made. The reason is printed on the option, and every rule comes from Sunrise's order form.
Yes, with the WC-19 transit system. It comes with a transit included frame and can be added to a transit optional frame. Sunrise's WC-19 transit securement supplement is on the Resources tab.
No. The X'CAPE is built to order to one child's measurements, so it cannot be returned. The Sunrise warranty covers defects.
