The Zippie Zone is Sunrise Medical's ultra lightweight rigid pediatric wheelchair, built to order from Sunrise's own order form.
You choose the frame, the sizes, the wheels, the seat heights, the back and the color, and every choice is checked against Sunrise's rules and seat height charts as you build.
What stands out
Grows with the child
The frame has 3" of depth growth built in and the sling upholstery adds 2" more. To widen the chair, Sunrise replaces a few parts and the frame stays.
Made for reaching the wheels
The inset backrest, the flip up angle adjustable footrest and the hub lock on the seat rail keep a child's arms and hands clear of the wheels while pushing and transferring.
Light 7000 series aluminum
Sunrise heat treats the frame with its ShapeLoc process and uses ovalized tubing, so the walls are thinner and the chair weighs 14 lbs.
Seat heights from Sunrise's charts
Every rear wheel, caster, seat height and center of gravity combination is checked against Sunrise's front seat height chart and its wheel and caster clearance rules as you build.
Colors a child picks
Twenty frame colors, three personalized finishes, an anodized color package for the forks and axle sleeves, and colored spoke guards.
Built for transit
The WC-19 transit option lets the child ride in a vehicle seated in the chair. The rear frame extends 1" for it and the depth growth is kept.
The Hieline Insight
The Zippie Zone suits an active child who pushes most of the day and gets in and out of the car on their own, because the rigid frame is the lightest thing Sunrise makes for a child and every part is set up for reaching the wheels. The first choice is with or without seating: take Sunrise's sling and back if the child sits on a simple cushion, and go without if a JAY or custom seat is planned. Seat heights matter more on the Zone than on a folding chair, since the rear wheel and caster sizes decide which heights Sunrise can build, so pick the wheels first and let the build open the heights that fit. The frame and sling grow in depth, so choose a depth near the child's measurement and leave the growth for later. Common questions
Measure the child seated on a firm surface. Hip width is the widest point across the hips. Seat depth is from the back of the hips to the back of the knee. Lower leg length is from the back of the knee to the bottom of the heel. Sunrise's measuring guide is on the Resources tab.
Sunrise's front seat height chart sets the heights each rear wheel and caster size can reach, and some wheel and caster sizes need a longer frame or a higher seat to clear each other. The build only opens the heights Sunrise allows for the choices you have made.
With seating adds Sunrise's tension adjustable Ultra seat sling and back upholstery. Without seating is for a JAY or custom cushion and back that you buy separately.
The frame grows up to 3" in depth and the sling up to 2" more. Each depth option names its range. The width changes by replacing a few parts of the frame.
They do not work with a choice you have already made. The reason is printed on the option, and every rule comes from Sunrise's order form.
Yes, with the WC-19 transit option. It is not offered with an 18" frame depth, and on the 1" inset frame the seat heights start at 15".
No. The Zone is built to order to one child's measurements, so it cannot be returned. The Sunrise warranty covers defects.
No. You can order a Zippie Zone from Hieline without a prescription.
No. Hieline does not bill or accept insurance, so the Zippie Zone is a direct purchase. Any reimbursement is strictly between you and your insurer.
