The Astra Aluminum Transport Chair is the light version of the same companion chair. At 19 lbs. it is 9.5 lbs. lighter than the 19" steel model, which is what decides whether one person can load it into a car without help. Somebody else pushes it: there are no hand rims and no large rear wheels. The aluminum frame holds 250 lbs., the back folds down flat with a release hinge, and the swing-away footrests with heel loops come off without tools. It has padded full-length armrests, a seat belt, push-to-lock wheel locks and 8" solid rubber tires, in black or blue with a 19" seat.

What stands out
The case for spending $20 more than the steel Astra is 9.5 lbs., and that is a bigger deal than it sounds, because the person lifting a transport chair into a boot is usually the carer and is often not the stronger of the two.
Everything else is the same chair: 250 lbs. capacity, a 19" W X 16" D seat 19" off the floor, a back that folds flat rather than only sideways, swing-away footrests with heel loops included, a seat belt and 8" solid tires with nothing to inflate.
The limits are worth saying plainly. Nobody can self-propel it, because there are no hand rims. It comes in one seat width only, so if you need 17" you have to take the steel model. And 250 lbs. is the ceiling, with no bariatric version in this range. At $159 in black or blue with a 3 year warranty, it is the right chair for appointments and days out, and the wrong one for someone who wants to move around their own home unaided.
