The Pivot is a gait trainer for a child who needs help to stand upright and walk, from a child who needs a lot of support to one who is close to walking alone. The frame on its own is a walker on four-function casters, and what turns it into a gait trainer is the set of add-ons. Many children start with the trunk support, which holds the upper body, and the hip positioner, which carries part of the weight and keeps the legs apart. Thigh and ankle prompts come next when the legs cross or the steps are uneven, and the forearm platforms or hand grips give the arms something to work with. As your child gains control you take parts off by hand, so the same frame follows the progress. Choose the frame by weight and by handle height, and choose the trunk support and thigh prompts by your child's own measurements, because Circle Specialty sizes them apart from the frame. The variable resistance on the casters is worth knowing about: it slows the trainer for a child who tends to rush and helps even out a step that pulls to one side. If you need to take it in the car, the medium and large fold and the small does not.
