The Embrace is the back to choose when you want the sides set to your body with wings you adjust. Its planar aluminum back carries wings you adjust for angle, height and width, plus moldable stays and built-in chest strap guides, so a clinician can fit it closely and refit it as needs change. The Embrace LTS adds two lateral pads on fixed hardware for someone who leans to one side and needs holding upright, and it comes in sizes down to 10" wide. If you want the contour built into the shell, look at the Comfort Unite instead. Measure your back canes for the width, keep the height you have now if you are replacing a back, and choose Compass 4 hardware unless your power chair is one of the five the power mount names.

The owner's manual for this product has its own warranty section, and that section is the complete statement of what Comfort Company covers, for how long, and what falls outside the coverage. Read it before you file a claim. If anything on this page differs from the manual, go by the manual.
A back support sits against the body, so once it ships it cannot be returned. Measure your wheelchair's back canes before you order and use the build steps above. The warranty is unaffected, so a defect is still covered.
If something goes wrong
Call us first at 1-855-HIELINE. We file the claim with Comfort Company for you and get the covered part sorted out rather than handing you a phone number.
Both are the same back with adjustable wings. The Embrace LTS adds two lateral trunk support pads that hold the trunk upright from the sides, and it costs $336 more at the smallest sizes. Your seating clinician can tell you whether you need the pads.
How do I choose the width?
Measure your wheelchair from the outside of one back cane to the outside of the other, and choose that width, from 10" to 24".
How do I choose the height?
The height is the length of the shell from its lower edge to its upper edge. Permobil's manual says the lower edge must rest against the back of the pelvis, so measure up from there. If you are replacing a back you like, choose the height you have now.
What is the weight limit?
It depends on the width: 250 lbs. up to 18" wide, 300 lbs. at 20", 350 lbs. at 22" and 400 lbs. at 24". These are the figures in Permobil's manual, and 400 lbs. is the figure on Permobil's Embrace page.
Which mounting hardware do I need?
Compass 4 hardware clamps to the back canes of most manual and power chairs. Quick release lets you lift the back off in seconds, and fixed stays on. A 24" wide back needs 4 point or power mount hardware, and power mount hardware is not made for a 10" wide or 10" tall back. Choose power mount hardware only if your power chair is one of the five named.
Which cover should I choose?
Comfort-Tek is fluid resistant and wipes clean. Diamond Spacer breathes and carries heat away, and it is not fluid resistant. Both cost the same.
Why do the LTS pad sizes differ from Permobil's page?
Permobil's Embrace page lists the pads as 3" L X 4" D, 4" L X 5" D, 4" L X 6" D and 5" L X 7" D. The Embrace LTS order form and Permobil's price file list 3" L X 4" D, 4" L X 5" D, 4" L X 6.5" D and 5" L X 6.5" D, each with its own part number. We sell the order form's sizes, because those are the parts Permobil ships.
Is this the Acta-Embrace back?
Yes. Permobil renamed the ACTA-Embrace and ACTA-Embrace LTS to Comfort Embrace and Comfort Embrace LTS, with upgraded components.
What comes in the box?
The back shell with its wings, the cover with its foam, two moldable stays, the mounting hardware you choose and Permobil's operation manual. The Embrace LTS also comes with its two lateral pads on fixed hardware.
How long is the warranty?
Permobil's Comfort Company warranty covers the back shell, hardware and foam for 5 years and the cover for 6 months against manufacturing defects.
Can I return it?
No. A back support sits against the body, so it cannot be returned once it ships. The warranty still covers defects.
