Five shapes on one shell
The Unite 1 wraps 2.25" around your trunk, the Unite 2 wraps 4" and the Unite 3 wraps 6.5". The Unite 1 LTS adds lateral trunk support pads, and the Unite 1 Wing adds 5" or 7" wings.

The Unite replaces Comfort's ACTA-Back and ROHO's AGILITY Standard Series, and one shell now covers most needs. The Unite 1 gives general support with a 2.25" contour and suits most people who want a firm back in place of a sling. Move up to the Unite 2 or Unite 3 when you need the shell to hold you at the sides, or to the LTS or Wing when your clinician wants lateral pads or wings. The ROHO air insert earns its price if you sit for long hours or need the support shaped to your spine, because you tune it by adding or letting out air. Measure your back canes for the width, keep the height you have now if you are replacing a back, and choose Compass 4 hardware unless your power chair is one of the five the power mount names.

The owner's manual for this product has its own warranty section, and that section is the complete statement of what Comfort Company covers, for how long, and what falls outside the coverage. Read it before you file a claim. If anything on this page differs from the manual, go by the manual.
A back support sits against the body, so once it ships it cannot be returned. Measure your wheelchair's back canes before you order and use the build steps above. The warranty is unaffected, so a defect is still covered.

Choose by how much side support you need. The Unite 1 has a 2.25" contour for general support. The Unite 2 wraps 4" and the Unite 3 wraps 6.5" to hold you more at the sides. The Unite 1 LTS adds adjustable lateral pads, and the Unite 1 Wing adds 5" or 7" wings. Your seating clinician can tell you which one fits your posture.
How do I choose the width?
Measure your wheelchair from the outside of one back cane to the outside of the other, and choose that width. The page greys out any width the model you picked is not made in.
How do I choose the height?
The height is the length of the shell from its lower edge to its upper edge. Permobil's manual says the lower edge must rest against the back of the pelvis, so measure up from there. If you are replacing a back you like, choose the height you have now.
What is the weight limit?
It depends on the width: 250 lbs. up to 18" wide, 300 lbs. at 20", 350 lbs. at 22", 400 lbs. at 24" and 450 lbs. at 26". These are the figures in Permobil's manual and comparison matrix.
Which mounting hardware do I need?
Compass 4 hardware clamps to the back canes of most manual and power chairs. Quick release lets you lift the back off in seconds, and fixed stays on. A 24" wide back needs 4 point, power mount or Direct Mount hardware, and a 26" wide back needs 4 point or power mount hardware. Choose power mount hardware only if your power chair is one of the five named, and Direct Mount only for a Permobil chair with Corpus 3G seating. The page greys out any hardware Permobil does not make for your size.
What does the ROHO air insert do?
It is a panel of air cells set into the foam behind your spine, and on the Unite 3 at the sides as well. You add or let out air to set how the back supports you, and you check it at least once a day. It is offered on the Unite 1 Wing, Unite 2 and Unite 3.
Which cover should I choose?
Comfort-Tek is fluid resistant and wipes clean. Diamond Spacer breathes and carries heat away. Diamond Spacer with GlideWear adds a panel that reduces shear on the skin, for $52 more. Neither Diamond Spacer cover is fluid resistant.
Why do the Unite 1 LTS pad sizes differ from the comparison matrix?
Permobil's back support comparison matrix lists the pads as 3" L X 5" D, 4" L X 5" D, 4" L X 6" D and 5" L X 6" D. The Unite 1 LTS order form and Permobil's price file list 3" L X 4" D, 4" L X 5" D, 4" L X 6.5" D and 5" L X 6.5" D, each with its own part number. We sell the order form's sizes, because those are the parts Permobil ships.
What HCPCS code is the Unite 3?
Permobil's Unite page lists the Unite 3 as E2615/E2616, which is what our specifications show. Its order form, price file and comparison matrix code it E2620/E2621. Your supplier or payer decides the billing code.
Does it replace the ACTA-Back?
Yes. Permobil's Unite flyer names the Unite 1 as the replacement for the ACTA-Back, the Unite 2 for the ACTA-Back Deep with 3" wings, the Unite 1 Wing for the ACTA-Back Contour and the ACTA-Back Deep with 5" or 7" wings, and the Unite 1 LTS for the ACTA-Back LTS. It also replaces the ROHO AGILITY Standard Series.

How long is the warranty?
Permobil's Comfort Company warranty covers the back shell, hardware and foam for 5 years and the cover for 6 months against manufacturing defects.

No. A back support sits against the body, so it cannot be returned once it ships. The warranty still covers defects.
