The AeroFly weighs 19 lbs. with the rear wheels on and 13.3 lbs. without them. It has flat-free treaded tires, quick-release axles, a fold-down back and carry handles in the seat. Holds 250 lbs. at 18" and 300 lbs. at 20".
A magnesium alloy self-propel wheelchair that weighs 19 lbs. with the rear wheels fitted. Quick-release 22" rear wheels, flat-free treaded tires, a fold-down backrest and carry handles built into the seat. Holds 250 lbs. at 18" and 300 lbs. at 20".
What stands out
The AeroFly is built around one number, and that number is 13.3 lbs., which is what you actually lift once the rear wheels are off. That matters more than the 19 lbs. on the spec sheet, because the wheels come off in seconds and nobody hoists a wheelchair into a boot in one piece if they can avoid it. The trade for that weight is the arms: they are fixed desk length, so a rider who transfers sideways to a bed or a car seat will find them in the way, and that is the one thing to check before you order. Magnesium alloy and flat-free tires mean there is very little to maintain, the 22" rear wheels make it a self-propel chair rather than a transport chair with big wheels, and the 18" seat is capped at 250 lbs. while the 20" takes 300 lbs., so weight decides the size as much as hip width does.
Straight talk
Is it right for you?
A good fit if you
- lift a chair in and out of a car and want to carry 13.3 lbs. rather than a full frame
- push yourself, because the 22" rear wheels have handrims
- weigh up to 250 lbs. in an 18" seat or up to 300 lbs. in a 20"
- want tires that never need air
Look elsewhere if you
- need arms that flip back or lift out for a side transfer, because these are fixed
- need a seat wider than 20" or deeper than 16"
- weigh more than 300 lbs.
- need elevating legrests, because this chair ships with swing-away footrests and no legrest option
