The Hieline Take
The Encompass suits someone whose trunk leans or falls to the side and who needs to be held from the front as well. It weighs 8 lbs., so it makes sense when a J3 with laterals no longer holds the posture. Order your chair's width and the lowest height that gives the support you need. Take the standard lateral size for your chair width unless your clinician says otherwise, and add the swing-away anterior laterals on the side that needs them, since they swing clear for transfers. For foam, the 1" standard plus the base layer is 1.5", so Sunrise's 2" total means a 1.5" modification or one 1/2" layer of extra HR foam.

This product cannot be returned
Sunrise builds each Encompass to your order, so it cannot be returned once ordered. Check your wheelchair's width and the back height before you order. The warranty is unaffected, so a defect is still covered.

What comes in the package?
The Solid Back Package, Sunrise's SBK90XX, is the back in your size (ENC1000 at 18" tall and under, ENC1010 above), the removable Encompass mounting hardware (ENC1500) and the universal headrest adapter plate (HR0001S). Foam modifications and laterals are added in the build steps.
Which width do I order?
Order your wheelchair's width. The back fits between the back canes, so a 16" chair takes a 16" Encompass. Without laterals the back measures 6.8" less than the chair, and the laterals fill the space at the sides.
Which lateral size fits my chair?
Sunrise's standard size is Small on a 14" to 16" chair, Medium/Small at 17" to 19", Medium/Large at 20" to 22" and Large at 23" to 25". A swing-away anterior lateral mounts on a posterior lateral, so it is sold here with the posterior lateral of the same size.
How much foam should I choose?
Sunrise recommends 2" of foam in total on the back, including the 1/2" closed cell base layer, and 1" in total on each lateral. The foam and extra HR foam steps set the back; the laterals ship with Sunrise's standard foam.
Can I order personalized laterals?
No. Sunrise prices personalized posterior and anterior laterals by quote, so they are not sold here. The four standard sizes are.
Does it take a headrest?
Yes. The universal headrest adapter plate is in the package. A headrest and its mount are not sold on this page.
What is the weight capacity?
250 lbs., the figure on Sunrise's page and in the JAY catalog.
Can I return it?
No. Sunrise builds the Encompass to your order, so it cannot be returned once ordered. A defect is still covered by the warranty.
