A powered air mattress and its control unit. Adjacent air cells take turns carrying the weight on a 5, 10 or 15 minute cycle, and air flows under the therapy pad to carry moisture away. It is 36" x 80" x 8" and carries 350 lbs.
Built for real life
What stands out
●
Alternating pressure
Adjacent air cells take turns carrying the weight, on a cycle of 5, 10 or 15 minutes.
●
Low air loss under the pad
Up to 40 liters of air a minute moves under the therapy pad, which carries moisture away from the skin.
●
Support when sitting up
A position sensor adds support under a person who is seated in the bed.
●
Autofirm for transfers
One mode fills the mattress to its firmest for moving the person and for care.
The Hieline Take
The DermaFloat APL does two things at once. Its twenty air cells work in two sets, and the control unit lets one set down while the other carries the weight, then swaps them, on a cycle of 5, 10 or 15 minutes. That takes pressure off each part of the body in turn, which is what a clinician means by alternating pressure. Under the therapy pad, a low air loss system moves up to 40 liters of air a minute to carry moisture away from the skin. The control unit also has a static Therapy mode, an Autofirm mode that fills the mattress hard for transfers, eight comfort settings and a sensor that adds support when the person sits up. Joerns lists it for pressure injuries from Stage 1 through Stage 4 and for people at risk from immobility. The limit to know is weight: this system carries 350 lbs., where the DermaFloat LAL carries 500 lbs. It also has no lower safety layer, because Joerns built the 8" cells to hold the person without one. Buy this when a clinician has asked for alternating pressure. The surface for an existing wound is their decision.

The owner's manual is the full warranty
The owner's manual for this product has its own warranty section, and that section is the complete statement of what Joerns Healthcare covers, for how long, and what falls outside the coverage. Read it before you file a claim. If anything on this page differs from the manual, go by the manual.
Mattresses cannot be returned. A mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in, so once it has left us we cannot put it back into stock. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you, and the manufacturer warranty still applies.
If something goes wrong
Call us first at 1-855-HIELINE. We file the claim with Joerns Healthcare for you and get the covered part sorted out rather than handing you a phone number.
What is in the box?
The mattress with its therapy pad, and the control unit with its hose. Together they are the system, and it replaces the mattress on the bed.
Does it need power?
Yes. The control unit runs on a grounded 120 V outlet and stays on while the person is on the mattress.
What happens in a power cut?
The control unit sounds a power failure alarm, which can be reset. The mattress needs the control unit running to alternate and to move air.
What size is it?
36" wide, 80" long and 8" deep, for a standard homecare or long-term care bed. It comes in this one size here.
Will it fit my bed?
Measure the deck of the bed first. Joerns designs its support surfaces as mattress replacements, and it says they must not be used on a bed that leaves gaps between the mattress and the head panel, the foot panel or the rails. Check those gaps once the mattress is on.
How much weight does it hold?
350 lbs. That is the rating of the mattress alone. For a heavier person, the DermaFloat LAL carries 500 lbs.
How is it different from the DermaFloat LAL?
The APL alternates pressure between two sets of cells and adds a smaller low air loss flow. The LAL gives full low air loss with a pulsate mode, carries 500 lbs. against 350 lbs., is 10" deep against 8", and comes 42" wide as well as 36".
Who should not use it?
Joerns does not recommend the DermaFloat APL for a person with an unstable spinal fracture, and it says to ask the physician first. It also says the system must not be used on a bed that leaves gaps between the mattress and the panels or rails.
What is the warranty?
Joerns covers the mattress for 2 years, and the cover and the electromechanical parts for 1 year. Those parts are the compressor, the valves, the circuit boards, the hoses and the couplers. Burns, cuts, punctures and stains are not covered. The warranty goes to the original purchaser.
Can I return it?
No. Mattresses cannot be returned, because a mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you.
