Built for real life
What stands out
●
Low air loss
Air moves through the mattress and under the therapy pad all the time, which carries moisture away from the skin.
●
Pulsate mode
The pressure in all the cells drops and rises every 30 seconds, which Joerns says may add comfort.
●
A safety layer under the cells
A 2" lower layer stays inflated for up to 12 hours during a power failure or a move, so the person does not sink to the deck.
●
Autofirm for transfers
One mode fills the mattress to its firmest for moving the person and for care.
The Hieline Take
The DermaFloat LAL is a low air loss system, which means the control unit keeps air moving through the mattress and under the therapy pad the whole time. That airflow, more than 100 liters a minute, carries moisture away from the skin, and that is the reason a clinician asks for low air loss for a person whose skin stays damp from perspiration, incontinence or a draining wound. The mattress is twenty air cells, 8" deep, over a 2" safety layer that stays inflated for up to 12 hours if the power fails or the bed is moved. The control unit has three modes. Therapy holds the pressure at one of eight comfort settings, Pulsate lowers and raises the pressure in all the cells every 30 seconds, and Autofirm fills the mattress hard for transfers and care. Joerns lists it for pressure injuries from Stage 1 through Stage 4 and for people at risk from immobility. It is 10" deep, which is 4" more than a foam mattress, so the rails must be tall enough above it, and the inflatable CairRails bolsters along each side are there to mark the edge. Buy this when a clinician has asked for low air loss. The surface for an existing wound is their decision.

The Joerns DermaFloat LAL Low Air Loss Mattress System is covered by Joerns Healthcare's own limited warranty. The coverage we have on record is below.

The owner's manual is the full warranty
The owner's manual for this product has its own warranty section, and that section is the complete statement of what Joerns Healthcare covers, for how long, and what falls outside the coverage. Read it before you file a claim. If anything on this page differs from the manual, go by the manual.
Mattresses cannot be returned. A mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in, so once it has left us we cannot put it back into stock. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you, and the manufacturer warranty still applies.
If something goes wrong

What is in the box?
The mattress with its therapy pad, and the control unit with its hose. Together they are the system, and it replaces the mattress on the bed.
Does it need power?
Yes. The control unit runs on a grounded 120 V outlet and stays on while the person is on the mattress.
What happens in a power cut?
The control unit sounds and shows a power failure alarm. The 2" lower safety layer stays inflated for up to 12 hours, so the person does not sink to the deck.
Which size do I need?
Match the deck of the bed. The 36" x 80" system suits a standard homecare or long-term care bed, and the 42" x 80" system is for a frame that is 42" wide.
Will it fit my bed?
Measure the deck of the bed first. Joerns designs its support surfaces as mattress replacements, and it says they must not be used on a bed that leaves gaps between the mattress and the head panel, the foot panel or the rails. Check those gaps once the mattress is on.
Is it tall enough for my rails?
The mattress is 10" deep, which is about 4" more than a foam mattress. Check that the rails still stand high enough above it for the person using the bed.
How much weight does it hold?
500 lbs. That is the rating of the mattress alone. The person, the mattress and anything else on the bed must still stay within the limit of the bed frame.
Who should not use it?
Joerns does not recommend the DermaFloat LAL for a person with an unstable spinal fracture, and it says to ask the physician first. It also says the system must not be used on a bed that leaves gaps between the mattress and the panels or rails.
What is the warranty?
Joerns covers the mattress for 2 years, and the cover and the electromechanical parts for 1 year. Those parts are the compressor, the valves, the circuit boards, the hoses and the couplers. Burns, cuts, punctures and stains are not covered. The warranty goes to the original purchaser.
Can I return it?
No. Mattresses cannot be returned, because a mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you.
