The Hieline Take
The Alleviate sits above the Console in the PrevaMatt range. It shares the memory foam top layer with the Console, 3.0 lbs. density at 13 ILD, and puts it over a firmer 34 ILD base, under a cover that stretches four ways where the Console cover stretches two. Joerns lists it for prevention through Stage 2 pressure injuries, one stage past the Console, and covers the foam for 7 years against 5. The TEMPUR versions are a different purchase. They use genuine TEMPUR material from Tempur-Pedic, they are priced well above the standard mattress, and Joerns lists them for treatment of uncomplicated pressure injuries up to Stage 3. That is a surface a clinician asks for by name, so buy it when one has. For a person at risk who has no wound, the standard Alleviate does the job this range is built for. Choose the raised perimeter only if the bed is used without side rails or the gap under the rails needs closing. The raised perimeter and the TEMPUR material do not come together.

Mattresses cannot be returned. A mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in, so once it has left us we cannot put it back into stock. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you, and the manufacturer warranty still applies.

Match the deck of the bed. 35" x 80" suits a standard homecare or long-term care bed. Choose 84" only if the bed has a length extension, and 42" only if the frame has been widened to 42".
Will it fit my bed?
Measure the deck of the bed first. The 35" width fits a standard homecare or long-term care bed, and the 42" width is for a frame that has been widened. Joerns says its PrevaMatt mattresses meet the FDA and Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup entrapment guidance when they are used on a Joerns bed frame. On another maker's bed, check the gaps at the rails and the bed ends once the mattress is on.
What does the TEMPUR material add?
It is genuine TEMPUR material from Tempur-Pedic in place of the standard top layer. Joerns lists the TEMPUR version for treatment of uncomplicated pressure injuries up to Stage 3, where the standard Alleviate is listed for prevention through Stage 2. The surface for an existing wound is a decision for the clinician treating it.
What is the raised perimeter?
The foam edge stands above the sleep surface. Joerns says it adds security when the bed is used without side rails, and it helps close the gap when the mattress sits low against the bottom of a rail. It comes on the 80" length in both widths, without TEMPUR material.
How much weight does it hold?
500 lbs. That is the rating of the mattress alone. The person, the mattress and anything else on the bed must still stay within the limit of the bed frame.
How is it different from the PrevaMatt Console?
The base layer is firmer, 34 ILD against 45 ILD at a higher density, the cover stretches four ways instead of two, and the foam warranty is 7 years instead of 5. Joerns lists the Alleviate through Stage 2 pressure injuries and the Console through Stage 1.
Does it need a pump or power?
No. It is a foam mattress with nothing to plug in.
What is the warranty?
Joerns covers the foam mattress against defects in materials and workmanship for 7 years and the cover for 1 year. The warranty is prorated, and it is void if the manufacturer's tag is removed. Foam compressing with use is normal and is not a defect.
Can I return it?
No. Mattresses cannot be returned, because a mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you.
