The Hieline Take
The Console is the middle of the PrevaMatt range, and it is the one Joerns pairs with its own beds. The top layer is 3.0 lbs. density memory foam at 13 ILD, cut in a diamond pattern so it gives under the shoulders and hips, and the base layer under it is a firmer 45 ILD foam. The Defend below it puts memory foam only in the heel section, so the Console is the first PrevaMatt with memory foam under the whole body. The PrevaMatt Alleviate above it has a firmer base layer, a four-way stretch cover and a 7 year warranty against the 5 years here. Joerns lists the Console for prevention through Stage 1 pressure injuries and the Alleviate through Stage 2. The firm perimeter matters for a person who sits on the edge of the bed to stand up, because the edge does not fold under them. Choose the raised perimeter only if the bed is used without side rails or the gap under the rails needs closing, and choose the 84" length only if the bed has a length extension.

Mattresses cannot be returned. A mattress goes straight onto a bed somebody sleeps in, so once it has left us we cannot put it back into stock. If it arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, tell us within 48 hours and we will put it right at no cost to you, and the manufacturer warranty still applies.

Match the deck of the bed. 35" x 80" suits a standard homecare or long-term care bed. Choose 84" only if the bed has a length extension, and 42" only if the frame has been widened to 42".
Will it fit my bed?
Measure the deck of the bed first. The 35" width fits a standard homecare or long-term care bed, and the 42" width is for a frame that has been widened. Joerns says its PrevaMatt mattresses meet the FDA and Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup entrapment guidance when they are used on a Joerns bed frame. On another maker's bed, check the gaps at the rails and the bed ends once the mattress is on.
What is the raised perimeter?
The foam edge stands above the sleep surface. Joerns says it adds security when the bed is used without side rails, and it helps close the gap when the mattress sits low against the bottom of a rail. It comes on the 80" length in both widths.
How much weight does it hold?
500 lbs. That is the rating of the mattress alone. The person, the mattress and anything else on the bed must still stay within the limit of the bed frame.
Is it for a person who already has a pressure injury?
Joerns lists the Console for prevention through Stage 1 pressure injuries. It lists the PrevaMatt Alleviate through Stage 2. The surface for an existing wound is a decision for the clinician treating it.
How is it different from the PrevaMatt Defend?
The Defend has memory foam in the heel section only. The Console has a memory foam top layer over the whole mattress. Both have the firm perimeter, the sloped heel and a two-way stretch cover, and both carry 500 lbs.
Does it need a pump or power?
No. It is a foam mattress with nothing to plug in.
What is the warranty?
Joerns covers the foam mattress against defects in materials and workmanship for 5 years and the cover for 1 year. The warranty is prorated, and it is void if the manufacturer's tag is removed. Foam compressing with use is normal and is not a defect.
Can I return it?
