Built for real life
What stands out
●
Lowers to 8" from the floor
At its lowest setting the mattress platform is 8" from the floor, which shortens the distance of a fall from bed.
●
Rises to 28" for care
A caregiver can raise the bed to working height for dressing, changing and transfers.
●
One pendant runs the bed
The hand pendant moves the back, the knees and the whole bed, and one button moves the back and knees together.
●
Widens and lengthens
A width extension kit takes the frame from 35" to 42", and a length extender adds 4". Both are listed on this page.
●
A staff control at the foot
The optional staff control panel lets a caregiver run the bed from the foot end, lock out pendant functions and tilt the bed into Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg.
●
Welded tubular steel
The frame is welded tubular steel on a wide base, with four casters, two of them locking.
The Hieline Take
What the WeCare gives you is its height range. It lowers to 8" from the floor, which shortens a fall for a person who gets out of bed at night, and it rises to 28" so a caregiver can work without bending. Four DC motors run the back, the knees and the height from the hand pendant, and one button raises the back and knees together. The frame is welded tubular steel and weighs 145 lbs. without panels, and Joerns designed it for one person to deliver and set up. Two things need saying plainly. The price is for the frame, the pendant, the mattress stops and the baseboard bumper, so a complete bed also needs a set of head and foot panels and a mattress, and both are listed on this page. And Joerns built this bed for care facilities. Joerns names skilled nursing, rehabilitation and assisted living as the intended setting, and the warranty on the motors and electrical parts is 1 year. Choose roll at any height only if the bed will be moved while it is raised, because the roll in low frame moves only at its lowest height. The maximum patient weight is 400 lbs., and the mattress, the panels and anything else on the bed must fit inside the 450 lbs. safe working load with the person.

What comes with the bed?
The bed frame with its motors, the hand pendant, the mattress stops and the baseboard bumper. Head and foot panels, assist rails and a mattress are not included, and all three are listed on this page.
Do I need the head and foot panels?
For a complete bed, yes. Joerns treats the frame, the panels, the mattress and any assist rails as one bed system, and it recommends Joerns panels on Joerns beds. The frame can be bought on its own if you already have panels for it.
What is the difference between roll in low and roll at any height?
A roll in low bed can be rolled only when it is at its lowest height. A roll at any height bed can also be rolled while it is raised.
How much weight does it hold?
The maximum patient weight is 400 lbs. The safe working load is 450 lbs., which counts the person, the mattress, the panels, the bedding and every accessory on the bed.
Which mattress fits?
Joerns recommends a mattress at least 35" wide and 6" deep, in a length that matches the platform, which is 80". The Joerns PrevaMatt mattresses listed on this page are 6" deep. If you add the width extension kit, choose a 42" mattress. If you add the 4" length extender, choose an 84" mattress.
Can it be used at home?
Joerns describes the WeCare for institutions and the community. It states the intended use as institutional healthcare settings such as skilled nursing, rehabilitation and assisted living. Joerns also says the bed's electrical emissions are rated for professional healthcare settings, so in a home it may interfere with radio reception and may need to be moved or turned.
Who sets it up?
Joerns designed the WeCare for one person to deliver and set up. It needs a flat head screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver, and Joerns has an installation video, which is linked on this page.
What does the staff control do?
It is a control panel built into the foot panel, and it comes with the panel sets that name it. A caregiver can run the bed from the foot end, lock out any pendant function, and tilt the whole bed into Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg.
Does it work in a power cut?
It needs wall power. Joerns makes a backup battery for the WeCare, part number N211, which this page does not offer.
What is the warranty?
Joerns covers the mechanical and electrical parts for 1 year and the steel structure for 7 years. Welds are covered for the life of the product, which Joerns sets at 10 years. Batteries and pendants are covered for 90 days. The warranty goes to the original purchaser.
Not includedHead and foot panels, assist rails and a mattress. All three are listed below.
