Newton Air Grip handrims carry a coating that gives the hand more friction and that Motion Composites says will not crack or peel. They come in five sizes.

The Hieline Take
A handrim is the part of the chair your hands work against thousands of times a day, so grip and feel matter more than they look like they should. The Air Grip coats the rim in a finish that adds friction for the hand, which helps when your grip is weak or the rim is wet. Motion Composites says the coating does not crack or peel, and lists the Air Grip as 1 lb. (440 g) lighter than a standard coated grip. Black is the lower price. The other 18 colors match Motion Composites' frame colors, with the caution from Motion Composites that a colored handrim can finish slightly differently from a frame in the same color. Pick the size of your rear wheel, order two for a pair, and clean them with warm water and dish soap only.

Is the price for one or for a pair?
For one handrim. Order two for a pair.
Which size do I need?
The size of your rear wheel: 20", 22", 24", 25" or 26". The wheel size is marked on the tire sidewall.
Why do the colors cost more than black?
Motion Composites lists the black Air Grip at $99 and each of the 18 colors at $187. They are $79.20 and $149.60 here.
Will the color match my frame?
The 18 colors carry the same names as Motion Composites' frame colors. Motion Composites notes that a colored Air Grip can finish slightly differently from the frame.
I want Sunkissed Orange, Steel Blue or Sky Blue. Is there anything to know?
Yes. Motion Composites revised these three colors starting at wheelchair serial number 159296. On an older chair, one new handrim in one of these colors may not match the handrim on the other side, so send us your serial number with the order.
Does it fit Mag wheels?
No. Motion Composites does not offer the Air Grip with its Mag wheels.
Does it come with mounting hardware?
Motion Composites' parts list sells handrim hardware as a separate item and does not say that the handrim includes it. Plan to reuse the hardware on your wheel.
How is it fitted?
On a Newton One wheel the handrim changes with a 4 mm Allen key and the tire stays on. On other wheels the tire and tube come off first. Both instruction sheets are under Resources.
How do I clean it?
With a microfiber cloth, warm water and a little dish soap, then wipe with a clean damp cloth and let it air dry. Do not use rubbing alcohol, paint thinner, vinegar, abrasive cleaners, a pressure washer or paper towels.
What should I have ready when I order?
The serial number of your Motion Composites wheelchair. Motion Composites asks for it on every parts order. Send it to us with your order number after you check out, and we match the part to the way your chair was built.
Will it fit a wheelchair from another brand?
Motion Composites publishes the fit for its own wheelchairs only, so we cannot promise it on another brand. Check the dimensions on this page against your chair before you order.
What is the warranty?
Motion Composites warrants its components for 1 year from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and tear is not covered.
