The flip-up arms are the reason to choose this chair and they are worth more than the specification sheet makes them look. Transfers are where injuries happen, to the person in the chair and to whoever is helping. With a fixed armrest, getting from the chair to a bed means standing fully and turning, or being lifted over the arm. With the arm folded out of the way, it becomes a sideways slide across a gap of a few inches, which one carer can manage without lifting.
