The NXT Classic is a pelvic back support for manual and power wheelchairs. It comes 16" to 22" wide and 16", 18" or 20" tall, with a 3" contour or the DEEP 5.5" to 7" contour.

The Hieline Take
The Classic is the simple one-piece back in the NXT range. It is built for users with good trunk control who want a firm base behind the pelvis in place of a sling back that has stretched. The one-piece aluminum shell is light, the cut-out at the bottom leaves room for the pelvis to sit back where it should, and the lateral contours give pelvic stability without wrapping the trunk. The standard Classic has a mild 3" contour. The DEEP version has laterals that set from 5.5" to 7", which adds support for users who lean. It comes in three heights at every width, so the choice is simple: pick the width of your back canes, then a height that supports you without getting in the way of your arms. Check the weight limit for your width before you order, because it rises from 300 lbs. to 400 lbs. at 22" wide.

How do I choose the width?
Measure between the outside of your back canes. Each Classic fits chairs from its own width up to 2" wider, so a 16" back fits 16" to 18" chairs. NXT makes the Classic 16", 18", 20" and 22" wide.
How do I choose the height?
NXT makes the Classic 16", 18" and 20" tall at every width. A taller back gives more trunk support; a shorter one leaves more room for the arms when you push.
Classic or Classic DEEP?
The Classic has a mild 3" pelvic contour for users with good trunk control. The Classic DEEP has deeper laterals that adjust from 5.5" to 7" for more midline support. Both come in the same sizes at the same price.
What is the weight limit?
300 lbs. up to 20" wide and 400 lbs. at 22" wide. When the back is on a wheelchair, the lower of the two limits applies.
Why does a 22" back cost more?
NXT lists backs 22" and wider at a higher price, billed under HCPCS E2621 instead of E2620. They cost $42.40 more here.
Which mounting hardware should I choose?
The standard QuickFit quick release hardware lifts off with one hand and adjusts while you sit. If you never take the back off, NXT swaps in fixed hardware at no charge. The 2-point fixed gives 1" of depth and 25 degrees of angle and fits backs 16" tall or lower. The 4-point fixed has 1" of depth and about 15 degrees of angle and fits one chair width only.
The sizes on NXT's Classic page look different. Which are right?
NXT's web page prints 13" to 29" widths and 7" to 19" heights under the Classic DEEP, which are another model's figures. Its order form and its Classic product sheet both list the Classic DEEP at 16" to 22" wide and 16" to 20" tall, and those are the sizes sold here.
What is the Infection Control cover?
A fluid proof cover that wipes down, made by NXT to the back model you order. NXT lists it at $205 for backs, and it is $164.00 here.
What do I need for a head support?
A pad, the head support hardware and the receiver bracket. NXT requires all three, and the page will not add a pad without the other two. The flip back kit attaches to the NIB-0747 hardware only.
How do the lateral trunk supports work?
Each lateral is one side, with its arm and pad. Choose left and right on their own, so you can fit one or a pair. NXT ships the swing away laterals set up for the right side, and the instructions in the package turn one for the left.
How do I clean it?
Machine wash the cover warm (140°F) on a gentle cycle with regular detergent. Do not bleach, iron or dry clean it. NXT recommends inspecting the back monthly, washing the cover and shell monthly or as needed, and checking the fasteners every 6 months.
What does the warranty cover?
NXT warrants the back support for 24 months from delivery to the first user against defects in materials and workmanship. It is repaired or replaced if the surface does not stay intact under normal wear within 18 months. Cosmetic wear, misuse, improper installation, unauthorized changes, cigarette burns, tears from sharp objects and damage from improper washing are not covered.
Can I return it?
No. A back support sits against the body, so once it ships it cannot be returned. Measure your back canes before you order. The warranty is unaffected.
