The Xtend is the back to look at when the right back height is hard to pin down, or when it is likely to change. The shell is two pieces of aluminum. The lower piece stays put and supports the pelvis, and the upper piece slides up or down anywhere from 16" to 20", so the lateral contour lands at the height where the trunk needs it. The change is made with the user in the chair, which lets a therapist or the user tune it by feel. The standard Xtend has a mild 3.5" contour. The DEEP version wraps further around the trunk and its laterals set from 5.5" to 7", which suits users who need more help staying centered. Pick the width of your back canes, then choose the contour. Check the weight limit for your width before you order, because it rises from 300 lbs. to 400 lbs. at 22" wide.
