Fits most manual wheelchairs, including a standard steel one. SmartDrive MX2+ is Permobil's power assist. The drive unit attaches behind the chair, and you turn power on and off with the SwitchControl buttons on the frame. You still steer and brake with your handrims. Permobil says it takes up to 80% of the pushes off your shoulders.
A 13.2 lbs. drive unit that clips behind your manual wheelchair and adds power when you want it, for up to 12.3 miles on a charge.
What stands out
SmartDrive is for the manual wheelchair user who wants to keep their chair and their independence but is feeling it in the shoulders, or who faces long distances, hills and ramps. It does not turn the chair into a power chair: you still steer and stop with your handrims, and the power comes on when you press or latch a SwitchControl button. The choice to make carefully is the control. Two SwitchControl Buttons suit most riders, while the Monojack with the larger Buddy Button suits someone with limited hand function or an existing mono jack switch. Choose the wheel size, frame type and chair width with care, because Permobil builds the attachment hardware from them.

Before you order
Two things to check on your own chair
Permobil supplies different attachment hardware for a rigid frame and a folding frame, and sizes the folding adaptor bar to your chair width. Both answers come off the chair you already own.
