Overview
The LX, cross laced for a stiffer push
The XLX is the cross-laced version of the 12 spoke LX. The outside spokes cross at the hub, which stiffens the wheel. It is sold as a pair in four sizes, two hubs and nine spoke colors.
Built for real life
What stands out
●
Cross-laced spokes
The outside spokes cross at the hub. Spinergy says this cuts the wind-up you feel on a hard push and adds sideways stiffness for transfers and wheel locks.
●
12 PBO fiber spokes
Each wheel has 12 spokes of PBO fiber, 4mm thick. Spinergy rates the fiber at three times the strength of steel at half the weight.
●
Less vibration
Fiber spokes absorb shock that steel spokes pass on to your hands and shoulders. Spinergy puts the difference at 25%.
●
Two hubs
A standard hub or the wider X2 hub, so the wheel sits at the right distance from your frame.
●
Nine spoke colors
Black, blue, red, yellow, white, orange, green, pink or purple. Black spokes come with a silver hub or a black one.
●
Takes any wheelchair tire
The rim takes 1" and 1-3/8" wheelchair tires in the matching size.
The Hieline Take
The XLX is the LX with its outside spokes crossed at the hub, and the crossing is what you pay the difference for. On a radial wheel the hub winds up a little before the rim follows when you push hard. Spinergy says crossing the spokes cuts that wind-up, so the wheel answers a push sooner, and adds sideways stiffness for transfers and wheel locks. You keep the 12 thick fiber spokes of the LX and the same choice of nine colors. What you give up is the 12mm bearing option, because the list offers the XLX with 1/2" bearings only. The wheels arrive bare, so handrims, tires, tubes and axles are separate, and wheels cannot be returned. Check the list of makes in the specifications, or measure the hub you have now, before you order.
Straight talk
Is it right for you?
A good fit if you
- push hard and want the wheel to answer at once
- want a firmer wheel for transfers
- like the LX and want a stiffer version of it
Look elsewhere if you
- need 12mm bearings
- want wheels that arrive with handrims and tires fitted
- have not checked which hub your chair takes

Is the price for one wheel or for a pair?
For a pair. One unit in the cart is two wheels.
What comes in the box?
Two wheels with their hubs and bearings. Handrims, tires, tubes and axles are not included.
Which hub fits my wheelchair?
It depends on the make of your chair. The standard hub fits most everyday chairs from TiLite, Motion Composites, Ki Mobility, Invacare, Top End and Pride. The X2 hub fits most from Quickie, RGK, Colours, Kuschall, PDG, Per4Max and Box. The full list by make is in the specifications. If your chair is not on it, measure the hub on the wheel you have now, from the outside of one bearing to the outside of the other: 1.8" is the standard hub and 2.3" is the X2.
What is the difference between the standard hub and the X2 hub?
The distance between the two bearings. The standard hub measures 1.8" and sets the wheel closer to the chair. The X2 hub measures 2.3" and sets the wheel a little further out, which some frames need so the spokes clear the chair.
Which size do I need?
The size on your chair now. Read the number on the tire sidewall: 501 is a 22" wheel, 540 is a 24" wheel, 559 is a 25" wheel and 590 is a 26" wheel.
Which axle length do I need?
Axles are not included, and you can add a pair under "Add axles" on this page. The length depends on your chair. Spinergy's axle chart gives these lengths for the XLX. 3.75": Aria, Hands On Concepts, Ki Mobility, Melrose, Panthera, Reckless, TiLite and Vesco. 4.00": Levo, Miki, Mogo, Motion Composites and Roma. 4.25": Colours, GTM, Invacare, Top End, Kuschall, Lasher, newer P4X chairs and the RGK Octane Sub 4 and Tiga. 4.50": Kinesis, Lifestand, Quickie and older P4X chairs. 4.75": Box, Brand New Wheelchair and the other RGK chairs. A Ki chair with height adjustable armrests takes 0.25" more, except the Ethos, which takes 3.75". A Quickie more than 10 years old takes 0.25" less. The chart lists Box, GTM, Kuschall, Lifestand, P4X, Quickie and RGK on the X2 hub. If your chair is not on the chart, the length depends on two things: the length of the axle receiver in your camber tube, and the distance from the outside of one hub bearing to the outside of the other. Measure both and you have the axle length.
Which tires fit?
Any wheelchair tire in the matching size, 1" or 1-3/8" wide. A 26" x 1.95" mountain bike tire fits the 25" (559) wheel.
What does cross lacing change?
The outside spokes cross each other at the hub. Spinergy says this reduces the wind-up between the hub and the rim on a hard push, and adds sideways stiffness when you transfer or use the wheel locks. The inside spokes stay radial.
Why fiber spokes and not steel?
Spinergy rates its PBO fiber at three times the strength of steel and half the weight, and the fiber absorbs 25% more shock and vibration than a steel spoke.
Why do the photographs of black spokes show a silver hub?
Spinergy photographs the XLX with black spokes on its silver hub only. The black hub you get with "Black with black hub" is the hub shown in the photographs of the colored spokes.
What maintenance do the wheels need?
Keep them clean. Now and then take the wheels off the chair, pull the axle and wipe the bearings, the hub and the axle with a dry rag. The bearings are sealed and need no grease. Check that the spokes are tight, the rim is undamaged and the tires hold their pressure.
What is the warranty?
Spinergy warrants the wheels for 1 year from the date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, for the original owner. Keep your receipt. Bearing wear, crash damage and sports such as basketball, quad rugby and tennis are not covered.
Can I return them?
No. Wheels cannot be returned, so check the size, the hub and the spoke color before you order. If they arrive damaged or defective, tell us within 48 hours of delivery.
Is Hieline an authorized Spinergy dealer?
Yes. Hieline is a Spinergy dealer and orders these wheels directly from Spinergy, which makes them.
