The AL001 Universal Manual Carrier carries a scooter, a power wheelchair or a manual wheelchair on the back of your vehicle. The platform measures 28" x 48" and a 60" ramp folds down so the equipment rolls straight on. It takes up to 500 lbs. and it weighs 84 lbs. installed. Nothing on this carrier is powered, so there is no wiring, no switch and no battery to charge. It mounts in a Class II or Class III receiver hitch.

The AL001 is the cheapest way Harmar sells to get a scooter or a power wheelchair onto the back of a vehicle, and the reason is simple. Nothing on it moves under power. You fold down a 60" ramp, push the equipment up onto a 28" x 48" platform, and strap it down. There is no motor, no wiring into the vehicle and no battery, which is also why there is very little on it that can fail. It carries 500 lbs., which is more than most of the powered hitch lifts carry.
The honest caveat is the ramp, and it decides whether this carrier suits you. Somebody has to push the equipment up it. A 60" ramp is a gentle slope for a scooter that can drive itself on under its own power, and it is hard work for a person pushing an unpowered 300 lbs. chair. If the person loading the vehicle cannot do that, the powered lifts exist for exactly this reason and the AL100 or the AL300 Fusion is where to look.
Two smaller things. Harmar warrants this carrier for one year where its powered lifts carry three, so you are buying simplicity rather than a longer promise. And the equipment travels outside and uncovered, which is worth thinking about if you park outdoors or drive through weather.

What is not covered
Harmar warrants this carrier for one year, which is a shorter term than the three years its powered lifts carry. The term runs from the date of installation and from the date of retail purchase. Harmar states that the warranty is transferable only where the application is approved by Harmar's Compatibility Calculator, so a carrier fitted to a vehicle that was never checked may not carry a transferable warranty.
If something goes wrong
Call us first at 1-855-HIELINE. We file the claim with Harmar for you and get the covered part sorted out rather than handing you a phone number. The base warranty covers parts, so ask us about service and labor options when you call.
Returns
A vehicle lift cannot be returned. It is fitted to your vehicle, wired into it and in many installations drilled into it, so once that work is done the unit is matched to one car and it has no second life on the shelf. This is exactly why the steps beside this panel exist. They settle the mounting, the adapter and the plate riser before you order.

No, and you can order before one is on the vehicle. The carrier mounts in a Class II or Class III receiver hitch. A hitch shop fits one as routine work, and hitch installation is not possible on every vehicle, so confirm yours can take one.
The ramp is 60" long. There is no published angle, because the angle depends on how high your receiver sits off the ground. A scooter that drives itself up under power manages it easily. A heavy power chair that has to be pushed is real work for whoever is doing the pushing.

Resources
A vehicle lift bolts into a trailer hitch receiver, a square tube under the rear bumper with a pin hole through it. If you do not have one yet that is normal and it does not stop you ordering. Most vehicles take one and a hitch shop fits it as routine work.
Two measurements with a tape and we can tell you now whether the hitch adapter in the box fits your receiver. Measure the square opening across, and from the ground up to its bottom edge, both in inches. Skip them if you would rather we checked it with you before your order ships.
Where to measure
HV is the height you were asked for above. D1 and D2 are only needed when something sits close behind or in front of the receiver, and they let us name the adapter exactly. Harmar’s own rounding rule: round up above a half inch and down below it.
- HV. Ground to the bottom opening of the receiver.
- D1. Centre of the pin hole to the furthest point toward the rear of the vehicle.
- D2. Centre of the pin hole to the nearest point toward the front, going through the receiver. On some vehicles the spare tire is the nearest point.
The part that slides into your receiver and carries the lift comes in the box with it. Harmar does not put a hitch adapter in with this lift, and there is nothing to choose here.
You chose a swing away, and Harmar’s installation manual says the hitch shank that comes in the box is not used with one. A hitch adapter goes into your receiver instead and the swing away bolts to it. Pick it here at Harmar’s own price, or leave it and we confirm it with you before your order ships.
Only Harmar approved parts may be used with this lift. Hitch expanders and extenders are prohibited, because they can damage the vehicle and the lift and can injure the user.
This answer decides how much you have to work out yourself. A vehicle lift is wired into the vehicle and bolted to the hitch, so it is fitted rather than unpacked.
