Where we charge sales tax
Hieline is located in Plano, Texas. Under Texas law, we must collect sales tax on certain items when they are bought in Texas or shipped to a Texas address. That includes orders picked up at our Plano store and orders delivered by our Plano team. Checkout shows the tax before you pay. We do not charge sales tax on orders shipped outside Texas.
Tax-free in Texas
Texas exempts these items for everyone. No paperwork is needed.
- Manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and transport chairs
- Mobility scooters
- Walkers, rollators, knee walkers, canes and crutches
- Hospital beds, their mattresses, rails and replacement parts
- Wheelchair cushions and back supports
- Wheelchair and scooter parts, batteries and chargers
- Wheelchair accessories and power assist units
- Pediatric gait trainers and special-needs car seats
Taxable in Texas unless you have a prescription
These items are taxable in Texas. They are tax-free when a licensed practitioner prescribes them for the person who will use them.
- Lift chairs and lift chair batteries
- Patient lifts, slings and lift parts
- Shower chairs, transfer benches, bath lifts and commodes
- Raised toilet seats, toilet rails and grab bars
- Home adjustable beds, mattresses sold for them, bed rails, bed handles and bed steps
- Overbed and tray tables
- Ramps and vehicle lifts
- Standing aids, car handles and slide sheets
- Pediatric activity chairs, bath chairs, therapy benches and adaptive strollers
Have a prescription?
On the product page, tick the box "I have a prescription or a signed Texas Form 01-339 for this item" and attach a photo or PDF of it. The item goes into your cart without sales tax, and so do the add-ons you choose with it. Checkout shows the total you pay.
The prescription must be signed by a licensed practitioner and show:
- The practitioner's name, address, license number and license type
- The name of the person who will use the item
- The item or type of equipment prescribed
Attach it before you add the item to your cart. Shopping at our Plano store at 720 F Ave, Suite 101, Plano, TX 75074? Show the prescription at the counter and we take the tax off before you pay.
We keep a copy with your order, as Texas requires.
Scooter accessories
Texas taxes scooter accessories such as baskets, bags, canopies and covers unless the buyer signs an exemption certificate. To buy them tax-free, fill out the back of the Texas Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certification, Form 01-339. Write "accessory for a motorized scooter used as a wheelchair" as the reason and sign it. Then tick the box on the product page and attach the signed form, and the accessory goes into your cart without sales tax.
Delivery and shipping charges
Delivery and shipping follow the item. They are tax-free on tax-free items and taxable on taxable items.
