The Hieline Take
The Hoyer Classic Mesh U-Sling with Head Support is the general purpose sling of the Hoyer Classic line, which Joerns also calls the Universal sling, made in polyester mesh. The mesh drains and dries quickly for bathing. Joerns says the U-sling is easy to fit and suits about 85 percent of people. This version carries the head. It has webbing loops for the 4-point cradle of the Hoyer Classic lifts, and the longer the shoulder straps are attached, the more reclined the person sits. The safe working load is 600 lbs., and the lift's own capacity still applies. The binding on the edge is color coded by size, and Joerns gives a weight range for each size as a starting point. Joerns asks that a competent person assesses the person, the sling and the transfer before any sling is used.

It fits the Hoyer Classic lifts. Joerns' sling guide names the HML400 and the HPL402, and its price list lists Classic slings for the 4-point cradle. On the HML400 the sling hangs from the four outer points of the cradle. Joerns approves Hoyer slings for Hoyer lifts only.
Who is it for?
Most people who are lifted for bathing on a Hoyer Classic lift and need the head supported.
How do I pick the size?
Joerns gives a recommended weight for each size: Small 75 to 150 lbs., Medium 125 to 200 lbs., Large 175 to 350 lbs. Joerns says the weight range is only a guideline, because height and build change the fit, so have a clinician or therapist confirm the size.
How is it washed?
Machine wash warm, at 185°F at most, without bleach. Cool tumble dry or air dry, and do not dry clean it. Joerns says to check the sling before every use and to discard one that is bleached, torn, cut or frayed.
What is the weight capacity?
Joerns' price list, its sling guide and this sling's manual give 600 lbs. Its brochure prints 500 lbs. for the Classic slings. The lift sets the real limit: the Hoyer HML400 lifts 400 lbs.
Does a Hoyer lift come with one?
No. Hoyer lifts ship without a sling, so the sling is ordered with the lift or on its own.
What is the warranty?
Joerns warrants it for 6 months from purchase. Joerns replaces a product that proves defective in materials or workmanship. Normal wear and tear is not covered.
Can I return it?
