What stands out

●
No battery and no sling
The person pulls up on the cross bar and stands under their own strength, so there is nothing to charge and nothing to fit.
●
A seat that swings in
Two padded seat halves swing out of the way to load, then swing back behind the person for the ride.
●
Legs open by foot pedal
One pedal opens the legs to 28.5" inside to go around a chair, and the other closes them to 18.9" for a doorway.
●
Three pieces, no tools
The base, the seat section and the mast come apart and pack flat. The base weighs 43 lbs.
The Hieline Take

The Hoyer Up is for a person who can still stand with a little help and who should keep doing it. There is no motor and no sling. The person puts their feet on the footplate, rests their shins on the knee pad, takes hold of the cross bar and pulls up to standing. The two padded seat halves then swing in behind them, and they sit back onto the seat for the ride to the bed, the chair or the toilet. A caregiver pushes the handle and opens or closes the legs with two foot pedals, from 18.9" inside for a doorway to 28.5" inside to go around a chair. Because the person does the standing, every transfer is also a little exercise. That is the limit of it too. The person has to hold their own weight while standing, keep their balance with support, grip the bar firmly and follow instructions. If they cannot, a powered stand aid with a sling, such as the Hoyer Journey, is the safer choice. The Up carries 440 lbs., weighs 72.8 lbs. and comes apart into three pieces without tools.

Straight talk

Is it right for you?

A good fit if you

  • can stand with a little help and want to keep standing
  • can grip a bar and follow instructions
  • weigh up to 440 lbs.
  • want a transfer aid with nothing to charge

Look elsewhere if you

  • cannot hold your own weight while standing, where the Hoyer Journey or the Hoyer Elevate fits
  • cannot stand at all, where a sling lift such as the Hoyer Advance fits
  • need to travel outdoors or over uneven floors
  • weigh more than 440 lbs.
