This is a dignity purchase as much as a safety one. Without the cutout, washing properly means standing up in a wet tub, or being lifted by somebody else, and both are things people avoid until hygiene suffers. The cutout removes the choice between the two.
Against a plain seat with arms you pay nothing at all for it: this is $69.95 without a back, the same as our deluxe seat with arms. The trade is a slightly smaller sitting surface, because the cutout takes material out of the front of the seat, which a rider who slides forward should know before ordering.

Do I need the back?
It depends on trunk control. A rider who sits steadily without leaning does not need it and gains a lighter, smaller seat. A rider who tires, leans back, or needs something behind them while they are washed should have it. The back adds a few pounds and a few inches of depth, and on these models it lifts off if you change your mind.
How does the height adjust?
The legs pin at set heights and change by hand. Set the seat so the rider's feet are flat on the tub floor with their knees level or a little lower than their hips, which is the position they can stand up from.
Is the seat still comfortable with a cutout in it?
It is a smaller sitting surface than a solid seat, because the cutout takes material out of the front. A rider who sits well back will not notice. A rider who slides forward on the seat will, and should look at our solid seats.
Does the cutout make it a commode?
No. There is no bucket and nothing under it. It is a washing cutout. Our padded commode transfer bench is the one with a bucket.
Can I take the arms off?
Yes. Nova's own feature graphic for this model shows the padded arms as removable, so it is a seat with arms that still clears its sides for a sideways transfer.
